Everything is Architecture and We Are All Architects #4 – Parade of Magnificent Failures
We will begin by discussing the competition to design the Guggenheim Museum in Helsinki, which attracted 1,715 proposals from enthusiastic architects. Among these submissions was one proposal that ultimately led to the project’s shelving. Next, we'll examine the architects who proposed redesigning a square in Bordeaux, arguing that no changes were necessary and still managed to win the design competition. We'll also touch on the “Dust Block” in Thailand, which was intended to be a museum but never came to fruition. Additionally, we will explore the issue of intellectual property, highlighted by an NFT villa that sold for half a million dollars and more.
This evening, we will review projects that, although not realized, have advanced the architectural discipline globally and locally just as much as those that have been completed and physically constructed.
Host: Arch. Hila Shemer. Architecture Critic & Lecturer, Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem

This meeting is part of the lecture series “Everything is Architecture, and We Are All Architects,” which will be held at Liebling House’s Café Lev. During this series, we will examine contemporary architecture in our regions and worldwide through the lenses of politics, gender, economics, globalization, crisis, war, and peace. We will explore the ability of the architectural discipline to drive change – from urban environments and public buildings to the most intimate space – our private homes. Utilizing tools from both within and outside the field of architecture, we will envision a possible future.
